This week, Communitech is hosting True North, a conference bringing together 2,500 tech enthusiasts to make Tech for Good the core of digital life, work, and play. Join our team as the world’s creators and thinkers come together in the Waterloo Region to discuss the present and future role of technology in society.

This year, True North has scheduled a curated lineup of speakers, panels, and workshops, focusing on how to re-imagine and reaffirm tech as a force for good in the world. They have three dedicated tracks in topics of AI, education, and digital detox.

Our CEO, Balaji Gopalan, will take to the stage on Wednesday at 1:25, speaking on “The Amazing Potential of Digital Healthcare vs. The Scary Risks of Not Carefully Managing Data Privacy.” In creating a future of using tech, we must be careful to not forget about data privacy and the importance of managing data in the cloud.

Attend True North to hear from other speakers such as Tim Berners-Lee, Antonio Zappulla,  Ann Cavoukian, Tobi Lütke, and more. Attendees will learn how technology can make us safer and healthier, how to harness technology to “level-up”, and how to use tech to fulfill our obligations to the planet, to our cities, to each other.

True North acts as the official launching ground for Canada’s largest AI competition, the $1 million Leaders Prize, with the final pitch competition and awards to be held the following year, in June 2020. Participants will use AI to develop solutions towards a meaningful issue, aiming to solve major societal or industry problems and help connect AI talent to opportunities in Canada.

The conference takes place at LOT42, in the heart of the Waterloo Region. A renovated industrial campus, LOT42 is the perfect place for passionate thinkers and doers to talk about transformation. After conference hours, head to True North Festival, where attendees can unwind with great food, art, and music, while networking with others in the startup scene.

We’re excited to attend True North 2019, a global conference to have important conversations about technology and our increasingly digital world. Technology can both unite and divide us, impacting our personal security and privacy, careers, and homes. Join us as we explore the impact of technology on the digital health ecosystem and our individual lives.
