When looking to become HIPAA compliant, many organizations start their search by looking for a “HIPAA Certification”. While there are companies claiming to offer one, they fail to disclose the fact that there is no legally recognized certification or accreditation process. When it comes to HIPAA, the closest healthcare organizations can get to certification is a robust, third-party-reviewed compliance program. 

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) conducts audits to ensure compliance. Read more about the audit protocol from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) here.
